Information
The society has a room booked on Thursday evenings which we use to play SATT (Sit At The Table, I forget where that acronym came from) roleplay games.
I've played in a lot of games, and recently have started to run my own (I used to long ago, but I was younger, stupider and an awful GM - now I'm just stupid).
I'm a fan of 'Call of Cthulhu' (I've only ever been a player), really enjoy the style I've played - which is more long and minor side plots that we go off to investigate at length; much to my friends despair as he attempted to get us back on track.
As far as systems go, I'm a big GURPs advocate - I just like the fact it's very skill focused. It fits with my story telling style, where characters are a collection of skills and ideas. I like GURPs for investigation games of a less CoC nature. I have bought the 'Hero System' core book and a few extras, but I've never used it.
I'm currently enjoying learning a new system, 'Ars Magica', which is honestly the best magic system I've seen; far better than GURPs (we're all waiting for the new book that'll replace the awful magic system in the base set).
My Games
Planned
I'd like to do a UFO style game (Conspiracy X would be a close idea), perhaps another troup style game - the Ars Magica grogs are going very well. Though, currently I'm not looking to start anything - just ideas.
Current (as of 2008.02)
The Fall and Rise of Exeter (Ars Magica) [QuickLink]
I'm currently running an Ars Magica (by Atlas Games) game, The Fall and Rise of Exeter, on Thursday nights.
Basic plot, magi just after the gaunlet wander off to form their own covenant. Much danger and adventure are had.
Battlestations
Really, this isn't an RPG, but it isn't a boardgame either. I've got three players bumbling from one disaster to another in this boardgame/rpg. I quite like it, with all the pre-printed missions it's easy enough to run and most importantly good fun.
Paused Indefinitely
I say paused, as I might one day continue on from where the players left off (usually a mess), or just redo the whole adventure with a new group.
Two Minds Are Better Than One (GURPs)
An idea I had, basically to combine elements of 'Scanners' (great movie, watch it) with Peter Hamilton's Commonwealth Universe (good books, the Nights Dawn Triology is better) with a sort of nod to the 'Aeon Trinity' RPG by Whitewolf (loved reading the background to that).
Basically, people who live for a long time start to develop psi powers - varying in ability. Several factions formed, drop players in the middle - see what happens.
Footnote: one of my players, a retired general decided to buy a tank from an old war museum. Obtain some ammo on the black market and then proceeded to blow my final bad guy up. Damn players.
The Sound of Colour (ParanoiaXP)
A very odd idea I had for a Paranoia game, involving lots (and I mean lots) of forms that I spent many hours creating and printing out on coloured paper. Much fun had when I handed the Red level team leader his orders on green paper.
Was run as a one day (so about 4/5 hours) adventure, kinda lost focus at the end, so a crazy bot army turned up and they all got nuked. Wasn't very satisfied with the end.
Others Games
Hmm, I'm sure there should be an apostrophe somewhere in "Others Games".
I won't dribble on here, basically a short description of a few of the games I've played in... and why they were fun.
To differentiate from my own games, the following list will be of
the form:
System: Description (notes) (GM Name)
Current
Not actually playing in any games at the moment.
